Nathan Slade (Friends) Cemetery
What Oak Grove Cemetery in Fall River is to Bordens, and Oak Street Cemetery in Grafton is to Wheelers, the Swansea Friends / Nathan Slade Cemetery in Somerset is to Chaces/Chases.
Patty and I have a plot and marker here and plan to be buried here. I grew up in Somerset and my parents are here. Most of my mother's siblings and her parents, Frederick and Nancy (Chace) Askew, are here. Nancy's family and ancestors were Quakers.
The Slade Cemetery is now a town plot but it was once part of the adjacent Friends Quaker church. My great grandmother, Annie Laurie Ould Chace is here. Annie's husband, Jerome Chace is in Mt Hope Cemetery in Swansea with his first wife. Jerome's parents, my great-great grandparents, Enoch and Mary Chace are in Mt Hope cemetery also. But Jerome's, grandparents, my great-great-great grandparents, Moses and Phoebe Chace, are here in the Slade Cemetery.

Patience Brayton the Quaker and anti slavery activist is buried here.

Somerset was established as a separate town when it split from Swansea in 1790. That is why the Swansea Friends Meeting House here (in Somerset) is named so. As of 2007 there were only two remaining members of this church. Now there are none. The building is now owned by the preservation commission. It is being refurbished and has been placed on National Register of Historical Places.
