Family History

Stephen and Patricia A (Fox) Borden

The Family

Stephen is the first child of James F and Elizabeth (Askew) Borden. He is married to Patricia A Fox. Stephen and Patricia have two sons;

He graduated from Somerset High School in 1968 and UMASS Dartmouth in 1974 with a degree in Nursing. He was a member of the Delta Kappa Phi fraternity there.

Stephen was an Army veteran of the Persian Gulf War and served in the Army Reserve as chief nurse of the 399th Combat Support Hospital, Taunton, MA. and as chief nurse of the 804th Medical Brigade, Devens, MA. He retired at the rank of colonel in 1997.

He worked 37 years at the VA Medical Center in Providence, RI in various positions including head nurse of the surgical intensive care unit and Director of Quality Management, Staff Assistant to the Director and Operations Manager for Specialty and Acute Care, New England Network. He retired in 2008, and again in 2011 after returning to work.

Stephen was of the 12th generation of Bordens in America, descended from Richard Borden who settled in Portsmouth, RI in 1638. As a descendent of Borden Brayton, a soldier of the revolution, Stephen became a member of the SAR - Sons of the American Revolution in May 2014,  Robert Treat Paine Chapter, Taunton, MA. and a life member of the VFW.

In addition to Stephen and Patricia's children, they have grandchildren. From Matthew, granddaughters Grace and Elena; from Nathan, grandchildren, Maddox, Everett, Landry and Brooks.

Stephen is the brother of Peter J. Borden of Somerset,  Carol E. Chace of North Myrtle Beach, SC and Patricia Silvia of Berkley, MA. 

Patricia (Fox) Borden, his wife, was born in Aberdeen, MD., the daughter of the late Joseph P. and the late Theresa (Marques) Fox.

Patty graduated from Sacred Heart Academy, Fall River, MA. in 1970 and the Fall River Diploma School of Nursing in 1973.  She held many positions in nursing over the years, including 17 years as Director of Nursing for Health Care Services in Rhode Island. 

She is sister to; Timothy Fox of Travelers Rest, NC.; Terrence Fox of Stafford, VA.; Robert Fox M.D. of Charlestown, R.I. and Nancy Gundersen of Austin, TX.

Patty passed away Memorial Day May 25, 2020 and is buried in the Slade Cemetery, Somerset, MA. She was a wonderful person, wife, mother and friend and I miss her terribly every day.
